Maine Swimmers Fall To Yale

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving team hosted Yale University on Sunday afternoon at Wallace Pool, with the women falling 161-139, while the men were defeated 182-109. Megan Wolters set a new school record in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.16 and also won the 200 free.

In the women's meet, the Black Bears began the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. The 200 free was won by Megan Wolters (Cleveland, Miss.) in 1:56.18. Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) won the 100 back with a time of 1:00.32 and also added a win in the 200 back in 2:08.55. In the 200 butterfly Karin Feldman (Kyriat Motzkin, Israel) finished second in 2:16.11, and took first place in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.25. Heather Griffin (Presque Isle, Maine) finished second in the 50 free in 26.37 and added a second place finish in the 100 free in 56.67. In one meter diving, Jessica Pratt (Eddington, Maine) and Shannon Scott (Cumberland, Maine) took second and third, respectively. Brittany Harrington (Alexandria, Va.) took second place in the 200 breast in 2:28.65. Wolters won the 500 free in 5:07.16, over nine seconds faster than the second place finisher. The 200 free relay took second place.

The Black Bear men finished second in the 200 medley relay. In the 1,000 free, Scott Forrestall (Haverhill, Mass.) had a lifetime best 10:48.97. Martin Fitch (Bangor, Maine) took second place in the 100 back with a time of 58.65, while Zach Weinman (Bethleham, Pa.) took second in the 100 breast in 1:03.68. In the 100 free, Jason Stevens (West Boothbay Harbor, Maine) took second in 50.45. Zach Gray (Windsor, Maine) won the 500 free with a time of 5:17.91, while Andy Magiera (Surry, Maine) took first place in the 100 butterfly at 55.73 and added a first place in the 200 IM. The men also took a first place finish in the 200 free relay.

 

 

The swimmers of the meet for the Black Bears were Brittany Harrington and Megan Wolters for the women and Dan Thornton and Scott Forrestall for the men. Divers of the meet were Jessica Pratt and Ashley Schumacher.
