Maine Swimming Defeated By Boston College

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Friday and Saturday in a two-day meet against Boston College. The women's team was defeated 132-204, while men's team was defeated 103-227. Tal Shpaizer and Colleen Miller won two individual events each for the women and Nathan Richard won two events to lead the men.

In the women's meet, Maine began with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Colleen Miller (Missoula, Montana) took second place in the 1650 free with a time of 18:01.82. In the 200 IM, Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) won her first race of the day with a time of 2:10.67. In the 100 back, Brianna Tibbetts (North Berwick, Maine) was second with a time of 1:03.05, while in the 100 breast Shelby Settlage (Bothell, Wash.) was second in 1:10.85. Kiki O'Donnell (Hampden, Maine) was second in the 400 IM in 4:39.68. Jessie Ellis-Alcaide (Harpswell, Maine) was second in the 50 free in 24.74 and also was second in the 100 free in 55.04. Miller won the 200 free in 1:57.56, which was followed by Adi Levy (Givatayim, Israel) winning the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.26. Shpaizer won her second event of the meet with a time of 2:08.89 in the 200 back. In the 500 free, Miller was first in 5:17.25, followed by Brittany Harrington (Alexandria, Va.) in 5:21.63. O'Donnell was first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:29.37. The Black Bears were third in both the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay. In diving, Jessica Pratt (Eddington, Maine) was secondin the three meter board with 236.25 points.

 

 

For the men, the Black Bears started with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Zach Weinman (Bethleham, Pa.) took second place in the 1650 free with a time of 17:56.57. In the 200 IM, Martin Fitch (Bangor, Maine) was second in 2:04.38. Chris Card (West Bath, Maine) was first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.56, while Nathan Richard (Vergennes, Vermont) won the 100 fly in 54.49. Fitch tied for the win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:23.70. Richard was second in the 50 free in 22.42. In the 200 breast, Maine took the top two spots as Richard was first in 2:13.90 and Chris Card was second in 2:17.85. The Black Bears were third in the 400 free relay and tied for second in the 200 free relay. In diving, Keith Burgie (Arundel, Maine) was second in the three meter with 220.65 points and second in the three meter with 228.53 points.
