Maine Swimmers Fall To Wildcats

Durham, N.H. - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams were defeated on Saturday afternoon at New Hampshire, with the women falling 173-112 and the men dropping the meet 168-123. Three different swimmers won events for the women, while Andy Magiera won two events for the men. For the women, Brittany Harrington (Alexandria, Va.) finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:35.26 and added a first place finish in the 500 free in 5:23.91. Also in the 500 free, Kelsey Wilson (North Adams, Mass.) was second and Heather Griffin (Presque Isle, Maine) was third. Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) finished first in the 100 butterfly for Maine in a time of 59.10 and was followed by Karin Feldman (Kyriat Motzkin, Israel) in second place. In the 200 IM, Maine took first with Megan Wolters (Cleveland, Miss.) winning in 2:14.17. In the one meter, Jessica Pratt (Eddington, Maine) was second with 233.9 points and third in the three-meter board. In the men's meet, the Black Bears started strong with a win in the 200 medley relay. Andy Magiera (Surry, Maine) was second in the 200 free in 1:48.29, while Michael Goede (Omaha, Neb.) was second in the 100 back. In the 200 butterfly, Scott Forrestall (Haverhill, Mass.) finished in 2:17.78 for second place. Goede also took second place in the 50 free in 23.32 and second in the 200 back in 2:06.27. Zach Weinman (Bethleham, Pa.) took second place in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.0. Magiera was first in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.37 and added another first place finish with a time of 2:04.48 in the 200 IM. Isaac Forbes (Glenburn, Maine) was second in both the one meter and three meter events.
