Swimming Defeated By Boston University

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Boston University on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Pool. The Maine women were defeated 171-112 and the Terriers defeated the men 153-126. The Black Bears were led by Chris Card with two first place finishes for the men and Megan Wolters, Jessie Ellis-Alcaide and Tal Shpaizer each winning an event for the women. For the women, Megan Wolters (Cleveland, Miss.) won the 100 back with a time of 1:00.3. Meaghann Fisher (Carmel, Ind.) was second in the 100 breast in 1:11.24 and also second in the 200 breast in 2:32.27. Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) was second in the 100 butterfly in 59.36. Colleen Miller (Missoula, Montana) was second in the 200 free in 2:00.03. Jessie Ellis-Alcaide (Harpswell, Maine) won the 50 free in 24.51, a full second faster than Ali Chester of Boston University. Ellis-Alcaide added a second place finish in the 100 free in 53.74. Adi Levy (Givatayim, Israel) finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:13.98. In the 200 back, the Black Bears took the top two spots as Tal Shpaizer was first in 2:07.71 and Megan Wolters was second in 2:10.04. Shannon Scott (Cumberland, Maine) was the top Maine finisher in the one meter event in third place and also took third in the three meter. In the men's meet, Chris Card (West Bath, Maine) took first place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.12 and was also first in the 200 breast in 2:14.82. Cully Wakelin (Biddeford, Maine) took the top spot in the 50 free in 22.82, followed closely by John Quinn (Bangor, Maine) in second place in 22.85. Wakelin was also second in the 100 free with a time of 49.94. Michael Goede (Omaha, Neb.) was second in the 100 back in 57.35. Nathan Richard (Vergennes, Vt.) was second in the 100 butterfly in 53.35 and added a second place finish in the 200 IM in 2:02.04. Brian Smith (Scarborough, Maine) took second place in the 200 butterfly in 2:16.24 and Eric Palmer (Bangor, Maine) was second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.69. Keith Burgie (Arundel, Maine) was second in both the one meter and three meter events. The Black Bears 400 free relay team of Richard, Goede, Quinn and Wakelin took first place by over six seconds with a time of 3:16.97.
