Maine Swimming Falls To Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Saturday in a dual meet hosted by Boston University. The men's team was defeated 174-126, while the women's team was defeated 155-126. Tal Shpaizer and Colleen Miller each won two events for the women and Nathan Richard took two first place finishes for the men.

For the women, Maine's Colleen Miller (Missoula, Mont.) won the 200 free with a time of 1:55.62 and was also first in the 500 free in 5:09.02. In the 100 back, Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) touched first with a time of 59.80, with Crystie McGrail (Columbia, Md.) a close second in 1:01.71. In the 1650 free, Brittany Harrington (Alexandria, Va.) was second in 18:07.47, while Shelbi Settlage (Bothell, Wash.) was second in the 100 breast in 1:08.64. Settlage added a second place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.14. In the 200 butterfly, Adi Levy (Givatayim, Israel) was first in 2:10.45. Kari Boffa (Falmouth, Maine) took second place in the 100 free in 54.89. In the 200 back, Maine swept the top three spots, with Shpaizer taking first in 2:07.37 and Courtney Healey (Reading, Mass.) second in 2:13.03 and McGrail third in 2:13.21. In the 200 breast, Kiki O'Donnell (Hampden, Maine) was second in 2:28.49. Shpaizer was second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.96

 

 

In the men's meet, Jason Stevens (West Boothbay Harbor, Maine) took first place in the 200 free in 1:50.43 and second in the 500 free in 5:08.53. In the 100 back, Mike Goede (Omaha, Neb.) was first with a time of 56.65 and he was second in the 100 free in 49.21. Nathan Richard (Vergennes, Vt.) won the 100 breast in 59.03 and was also first in the 100 butterfly in 54.48. Martin Fitch (Bangor, Maine) won the 200 back in 2:05.22. Maine took the top two spots in the 200 breast, with Chris Card (West Bath, Maine) first in 2:14.84 and Eric Palmer (Bangor, Maine) second in 2:15.62. Palmer added a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.40. Keith Burgie (Arundel, Maine) was second in the one meter with 234.0 points and second in the three meter with 230.40 points.
