![]() Maine Swimmers Split Meet With Boston University

ORONO, Maine. - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving team hosted Boston University on Saturday afternoon at Wallace Pool, with the women coming away with a 193-107 win, while the men were defeated 165-132. Megan Wolters led the women's team with three first place finishes, while Zach Weinman won two events for the men. In the women's meet, the Black Bears got off to a strong start by winning the 200 medley relay, which was followed by a first place finish by Brittany Harrington (Alexandria, Va.) in the 1000 free at 10:56.49. Megan Wolters (Orono, Maine) won her first individual event of the day with a time of 1:55.55 in the 200 free. Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) and Kiki O'Donnell (Hampden, Maine) took the two top spots in the 100 breast at 1:11.26 and 1:11.80, respectively. Karin Feldman (Kyriat Motzkin, Israel) finished first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.87. The 50 free was dominated by Maine, with Katrine Alcaide (Harpswell, Maine), Lauren Viles (Oakland, Maine) and Heather Griffin (Preseque Isle, Maine) taking the top three spots. Feldman picked up her second win of the day with a first place finish in the 100 free at 55.84. Wolters added her second top finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:08.58, nearly twelve seconds faster than the second place finisher. O'Donnell picked up a win in the 200 back in 2:31.59, while Harrington added a first place finish in the 500 free in 5:17.32. Shpaizer won her second event of the day in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.36. In the 200 IM, Wolters finished first with a time of 2:14.75.
The Black Bear men also got off to a good start by winning the 200 medley relay and Andy Magiera (Surry, Maine) picking up a first place in the 1000 free with a time of 10:18.96. Jason Stevens (West Boothbay Harbor, Maine) won the 200 free in 1:50.60. Zach Weinman (Bethleham, Pa.) and Mike Goede (Omaha, Neb.) finished first and second in the 100 back, with times of 58.23 and 59.16. Weinman added another first place finish with a win in the 200 back in a time of 2:05.93. In the 200 back, Martin Fitch (Bangor, Maine) took first place in 2:19.07. The men also took a first place finish in the 400 free relay over the Terriers. The swimmers of the meet for the Black Bears were Brianna Tibbetts (North Berwick, Maine) and Lauren Viles for the women and Andy Magiera and Dustin Carrier (Lewiston, Maine) for the men. Diver of the meet was Jessica Pratt. Both teams will face Yale on January 9 at Wallace Pool following a winter training trip to Florida over the semester break.
