ORONO, Maine - University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving coach Jeff Wren has applied for partial phase retirement with the University. Wren has been a member of the coaching staff at Maine for 36 seasons. Pending approval, Wren will remain with the program on a part-time basis for the next three years. At this time, Wren remains head coach of both programs.

In addition, if the partial phase retirement application is accepted, a search will begin for a head men's and women's swim coach.

"Jeff has been a great leader of the swimming programs here at the University of Maine," said Athletic Director Blake James. "We look forward to having Jeff remain part of the team and the University staff on a part-time basis in the future."

Wren had been a part of the University of Maine men's swimming program since it's inception in 1971, first as a graduate assistant coach under Alan Switzer. He became head coach of the women's team for the 1973-74 season. In 1990-91, Wren became head coach of both the men's and women's programs.
