![]() Track Defeats Holy Cross

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's indoor track and field team hosted Holy Cross in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at the Maine Fieldhouse. The Maine men picked up a 106-73 win, while the women won 93-83. Skip Edwards, Jennifer Pierpont and Arel Gordon led Maine with two individual wins each. The men won twelve of 17 events, while the women were first in eleven of seventeen events. For the Maine women, Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) opened the meet with a first place finish in the mile with a time of 5:24.42. In the 500 meters, Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) took second place in 1:18.14. Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) won the 800 meters in 2:16.07. In the 1000 meters, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) took first place with a time of 2:55.45. Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) was first in the 200 meters in 26.23 and Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia) was second in 26.73. The Black Bears took the top two spots in the weight throw as Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) was first with a throw of 16.16 meters, a mark that set a new school record. Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) was second in the weight throw at 15.59 meters. Micralyn Wiechman won the shot put with a throw of 11.81 meters. In the long jump, Jennifer Pierpont (Saco, Maine) went 5.10 meters for first place and she also was first in the 55 meters in 7.40. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) won the high jump by clearing 1.60 meters. Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) was second in the pole vault at 3.20 meters. In the triple jump, Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) was first in 11.10 meters and Tess Perry (Farmington, Maine) was second in 10.78 meters. The Black Bears were second in the 4x440 meter relay and clinched the meet victory with a win in the 4x880 meter relay.
In the men's meet, David Manz (Underhill, Vt.) started off with a first place finish for the Black Bears in the mile with a time of 4:25.17. In the 55 meter hurdles, Maine swept the top three spots as Max Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was first in 7.76, Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was second in 8.10 and Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine) was third in 8.31. In the 400 meters, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) took first place in 50.19 and Matthew Holman was second in 51.30. Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.) took first in the 500 meters in 1:06.44. Daniel Voner (Dresden, Maine) was second in the 800 meters in 1:58.3. The Black Bears were first and second in the 1000 meters as Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was first in 2:28.28 and Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) was second in 2:32.68. Maine also swept the top spots in the 200 meters as Arel Gordon (Rochester, N.Y.) was first in 22.23, Andrew Horner (Kennebunk, Maine) was second in 22.82 and Dylan Cayer (Mexico, Maine) was third in 23.51. Arel Gordon added a first place finish in the 55 meters with a time of 6.22, tying his school record set earlier this season. Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) continued to run strong in the 3000 meters, taking first place in 8.37.60. Skip Edwards won the long jump in 6.65 meters and also the high jump in 1.95 meters. Christopher Warren was second in the high jump as well. In the pole vault, Maine took the top three spots, led by Mark Liimakka (Old Town, Maine) in first at 3.81 meters and Ryan Poulin (East Winthrop, Maine) second and Richard Cannon (Sanford, Maine) third. The Black Bears won the 4x880 relay and also had the top time in the 4x440 relay. On Friday night, freshman Lauren Forgues (Boothbay, Maine) competed in the 100th Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden in New York. As a member of the Maine Race Walkers, she finished fourth with a time of 7:15.37 in the USA Championship mile walk.
