BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the Valetines Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Boston University. The Black Bears posted numerous strong times as the team prepares for the America East Indoor Championships next weekend.

For the women, Vicki Tolton (Smither, B.C.) had strong showings in the 200 meters with a time of 25.43 and the 55 meters in 7.55. Tolton's time in the 200 meters was the third fastest in America East this season. Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) had a time of 1:00.00 in the 400 meters. In the mile, Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) posted a time of 5:02.99 for a 14th place finish. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was eighth overall in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.49, the third fastest time in the conference this season. Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) was 16th in the 800 meters in 2:16.72. In the 1000 meters, Teig Choroszy (Saco, Maine) was eleventh overall with a time of 3:02.38. In the finals of the 55 meter hurdles, Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) was third in 8.34, the second fastest time in the conference this season. The Black Bears 4x400 meter relay was 16th overall in 3:59.21. In the field events, Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) cleared 1.38 meters in the high jump. Heather Zavaduk (Smither, B.C.) was second in the pole vault, clearing 3.51 meters, her best performance of the season. Shira Panelli (Salinas, Calif.) was eleventh in the pole vault, clearing 3.36 meters. In the triple jump, Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) was tenth overall in 11.01 meters. Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) was the Black Bears top finisher in the shot put at 12.10 meters and Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) was sixteenth in the weight throw at 14.43 meters.

 

 

In the men's meet, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) posted a time of 1:03.98 in the 500 meters to finish seventh overall. Libby's time was the third fastest time in the conference this season. In the mile, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) finished in 4:11.75 for 13th place as he posted the second fastest time in the America East this season. Scott O'Conner (East Greenville, Pa.) ran his fastest time of the season in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.48. Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) had a strong showing in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:39.48, which represents the fastest time in the conference this season. In the high jump, Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) finished fourth overall by clearing 1.88 meters. Troy Irvine (Waterville, Maine) was 12th overall in the pole vault, clearing 4.45 meters. In the weight throw, Dzigbodi Ababio (Willingboro, N.J.) was 22nd overall with a throw of 14.01 meters.
