BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's indoor track and field team competed in the New England Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at Boston University. The men finished seventh overall with 39 points and the women were ninth overall with 33.75 points. The women were led by Hana Pelletier with a win in the 800 meters and a win in the 4x800 meter relay. The men were led by Donald Drake, Jeff Ramos and Kirby Davis with second place finishes.

On Friday, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) led the Black Bears with a second place finish in the 5000 meters. He posted a time of 14:31.39, almost matching the school record he set the previous week at the America East Championships. In the long jump, Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine) was 13th overall, clearing 6.53 meters. In the women's pole vault, Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) was seventh, clearing 3.12 meters.

A majority of the events ran finals on Saturday. In the mile, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was second with a time of 4:09.59, while Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) was sixth with a time of 4:12.70. Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) ran the fastest time in the preliminaries of the 800 meters, but was third in the finals in 1:53.02. In the 55 meter hurdles, both Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) and Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) advanced to the semifinals. In the finals, Ludwig was ninth overall with a time of 7.85. The Black Bears's 4x800 relay team of Miles Bartlett, Donald Drake, Eric Libby and Daniel Voner (Dresden, Maine) was third overall in 7:40.98. In the high jump, Jeff Ramos (Turner, Maine) was second overall by clearing 2.02 meters in the finals.

 

 

For the women on Saturday, Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was eighth in the finals of the 400 meters with a time of 59.45. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) won the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.79, while Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) was sixth in 2:15.31. In the 1000 meters, Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine) ran the fastest time in the preliminaries and was fourth in the finals with a finish of 2:57.72. The 4x800 meter relay team of Jessica Belliveau, Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine), Stephanie Jette and Hana Pelletier took first place in 9:10.13. In the high jump, Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was fifth overall, jumping 1.65 meters.

The men's championship was won by Connecticut with 149 points. Maine was the top team from America East in seventh place, improving on their 12th place finish last season. The women's championship was also won by Connecticut with 153 points. Maine was the third highest scoring team from America East in ninth place.
