![]() Arel Gordon Seventh In NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - In the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Arel Gordon reached the finals of the 60 meter dash, where he finished seventh with a time of 6.71. The meet was held on March 9 and 10 at the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center. On Friday night in the perliminaries, Gordon ran a 6.643 to finish fourth in his heat. He was seventh overall and advanced to the finals. Gordon was faster than runners from schools such as Minnesota, Florida, LSU, Florida State and Syracuse. His time broke the school record of 7.13 that had been set in 1999 by Joshua Mishou. In the finals on Saturday night, Gordon ran in lane one and was seventh overall with a time of 6.71. The event was won by Travis Padgett of Clemson in 6.56. Arel Gordon, a senior from Rochester, N.Y., set the school record and America East conference record in the 55 meters this season with a time of 6.19. He also set a school and conference record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.29. This marks the first time since 1999 that a University of Maine men's track and field student-athlete has participated in the NCAA Championships. On Tuesday, March 13 at 2:30 p.m. ESPN2 will air highlights of the meet. With the indoor season complete, the Black Bears will begin the outdoor season at the end of March.
