![]() Track Splits Home Meet With New Hampshire

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track teams hosted New Hampshire in their only home meet of the season at the Beckett Family Track Complex on Saturday afternoon. The women defeated the Wildcats 108-80, while the men were defeated 110.5-90.5. While the Black Bears had numerous first place finishes, Kathryn Souviney was the only student-athlete with two individual wins. In the women's field events, Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) won the hammer throw with a distance of 51.67 meters, which broke the school record she set last weekend at Navy. Maine took the top three spots in the triple jump, led by Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) with a jump of 11.32 meters. In the pole vault, Shira Panelli (Salinas, Calif.) won by clearing 3.12 meters. Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) was second in the long jump at 5.32 meters and Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) was second in the javelin with a throw of 32.46 meters. Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) was third in the shot put with a throw of 11.46 meters and second in the discus with a throw of 37.24 meters. In the high jump, Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) won in a jump-off over Amanda Virgets (Stevensville, Md.) with a height of 1.58 meters. On the track for the women, Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) took an early lead in the 1500 meters and never trailed with a time of 4:32.49. Kathryn Souviney took first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.20, while Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was first in the 400 meter dash in 59.78. Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) was second in the 100 meters in 13.61. In the 800 meters, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) and Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) were together for the first 600 meters, but Pelletier was strong down the stretch for a time of 2:13.94 in the win while Vidlak was second in 2:18.59. In the 400 meter hurdles, Amanda Virgets was first in 1:05.73 and Katelyn Andrle (Clifton, Maine) was second in 1:06.48. Kathryn Souviney added a first place finish in the 200 meters in 27.06. Jessica Hudec (Chicago, Ill.) was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:32.34. The 4x100 meter relay team was first in 49.70 and the 4x400 meter team was first in 3:59.38.
In the men's field events, Kenneth Savary (Shelton, Conn.) was first in the triple jump in 12.92 meters and Carson Hartman (Fort Kent, Maine) was second in 12.73 meters. Keith Corey (Scarborough, Maine) was third in the hammer with a distance of 44.01 meters and Carson Hartman was third in the long jump at 6.35 meters. Dzigbodi Ababio (Willingboro, N.J.) was second in the shot put with a throw of 15.10 meters and also third in the discus at 41.81 meters. Troy Irvine (Waterville, Maine) was second in the pole vault, clearing 4.27 meters. Khabir Edwards (Portland, Maine) was second in the high jump at 1.90 meters. In the javelin, Patrick Marass (Springvale, Maine) was first in 49.11 meters. For the men in the running events, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) won the 1500 meters in 3:58.20 and Jeff Caron (Auburn, Maine was a close second in 4:01.19. In the 110 meter hurdles, Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was second in 15.28. Khabir Edwards took first place in the 400 meters in 49.51 and Kyle McKague was first in the 100 meters in 11.51 in a close finish. In the 800 meters, Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) was second in 1:54.93 and Kyle McKague was second in the 200 meters in 23.13. In the 5000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) and New Hampshire's Ben Danton ran a tight race early, but with three laps to go, Davis pulled away and won the race by nearly 100 meters with a time of 15:09.22. Jonathan McGonagle (Portland, Maine) was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:32.22 and Matthew Holman (Gardiner,Maine) was third in the 400 meters in 57.62. The 4x100 meter relay was second for Maine. In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Daniel Voner (Hallowell, Maine), Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine), Matthew Holman and Khabir Edwards took first place by just one second with a time of 3:22.40.
