Track and Field Competes at Wildcat Invitational III

DURHAM, New Hampshire- The University of Maine men's and women's track teams competed in the non-team scoring Wildcat Invitational III on Saturday. The event featured several teams from the Northeast, as well as nonaffiliated runners.

On the women's side, the top performers included Courtney Francis (Waltham, Mass.) who took third in the 100 meter hurdles and fifth in the 400 meter hurdles, Laura Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.) who was runner-up in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Chelsea Leeman (Brunswick, Maine) who took fourth in the 5,000 meter run and Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) who was fourth in the long jump.

On the men's side, Travis Cook (Raymond, Maine) won the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.66 while Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) took the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:43.08.

Other top performers for the men included Andrew King (Ewabeach, HI) and Dylan Cayer (Mexico, Maine), who finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 meter dash, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) who finished third in the 1,500 meter run, David Englehutt (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) who was runner-up in the 5,000 meter run, Brendan Carr (Brewer, Maine) who finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Mark Liimakka (Old Town, Maine) who finished third in the pole vault and Dan Poirier (Lewiston, Maine) who was third in the javelin throw.

 

 

At the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Penn., the women's 4x400 meter relay team set a school record on Thursday. The team of Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia), Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine), Lindasy Burlock (Caribou, Maine) and Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) had a time of 3:48.27, which bettered the previous mark the team had set earlier this year of 3:48.65. The team finished 36th out of 83 teams at the highly-competitive meet.

The women's 4x200 meter relay team set a school record Friday. The team of Jennifer Pierpont (Saco, Maine), Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia), Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) and Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) ran the relay in a time of 1:40.67, beating the record of 1:42.99 set last year. The team finished 27th out of 46 teams.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine), Dan Voner (Hallowell, Maine), Jeremy Wood (Scituate, Mass.) and Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine) ran in a time of 3:21.73, placing them 55th out of the 75 teams.
