Track Competes At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams sent representatives to the 111th Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field. The Black Bears had strong performances overall, with school records set in the men's distance medley relay and the women's sprint medley relay.

The women's team of Silvia Scaldaferri (Vancouver, British Columbia), Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine), Chelsea Thibeault (Oakland, Maine) and Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) ran both the 4x100 and the 4x200 relays and posted times of 50.85 and 1:45.25 respectively. The team of Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine), Janeen Shepard (Brunswick, Maine), Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) and Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) ran a 9:31.19 in the 4x800 relay and set a school record in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:06.62. In addition, Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) went 11.36 meters to take twelfth place overall in the triple jump.

The men's team of Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.), Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.), Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) and Edward Caron (Topsham, Maine) set a school record with a ninth place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:57.28. The same team also was fifteenth overall in the 4x800 relay in 7:39.65. The Black bears team of Nate Holmes (Westbrook, Maine), Ivi Nwosu (Bridgewater, Mass.), Chris Jodoin (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) finished the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.66.
