Track and Field Competes at New England Championships
May 10, 2008 DURHAM, New Hampshire.--The University of Maine men's and women's track teams had several outstanding performances on the second day of the New England Track and Field Championships. The meet featured colleges from every division in the NCAA that are in New England. Leading the way for Maine on the men's side was Dan Poirier (Lewiston, Maine) who won the javelin with a throw of 200-7. Andrew King (Ewabeach, HI) was second in his preliminary heat in the 100 meter dash and third in his 200 meter preliminary heat. Charles Therriault (Amherst, Mass.) was 22nd in the 10,000 meter run. On the women's side, Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) was sixth in the long jump. Rebecca Even (Stoneham, Mass.) was second in her flight in the hammer throw, Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) was 10th in the pole vault and Jennifer Pierpont (Saco, Maine) was fourth in her preliminary heat in the 100 meter dash, qualifying her for the finals. The track and field teams compete in the last day of the New England Championships today, and will travel the ECAC/IC4A Championships next weekend in Princeton, N.J.
