Track Awards Presented At Annual Banquet

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams held their annual banquet on Tuesday, May 1. During the banquet, several student-athletes were honored with awards for their performance during the season.

The Roger Castle Male Outstanding Performer of the Year award was presented to Arel Gordon (Rochester, N.Y.), who set school records in the 55 meters, 60 meters, 200 meters and was seventh in the 60 meters at the NCAA Championship. The Friends of Track and Field/Cross Country Female Outstanding Performer of the Year was presented to Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine), who won the 800 meters at the New England Championships.

The Chester Jenkins Gold M Award for Outstanding Performance in a Championship Meet was presented to Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) and Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine). The Rhett Morse Award, named in memory of Rhett Morse for a student-athlete who has returned to participate following a difficult situation, was presented to Joshua Mimmovich (Portland, Maine). The most improved awards were presented to Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) and Courtney Francis (Waltham, Maine).

Also honored were the new school records set this season. Along with Arel Gordon's three records, these include the women's 4x200 relay, women's 4x800 relay, men's distance medley relay, Maxwell Ludwig in the 110 meter hurdles, Kirby Davis in the 2005 meters, and Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) in the weight throw.
