Cross Country Competes At New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2005 New England Championships held in Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday. In the men's race, Maine finished seventh overall, while Maine was twenty-first in the women's race. Top finishers for the Black Bears were Kirby Davis for the men and Hana Pelletier for the women.

In the men's race, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) finished twelfth overall with a time of 25:23. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was 23rd overall in 25:41 and Joshua Trevino was 43rd in 26:07. Rounding out the top five scorers for the Black Bears were Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) in 63rd place in 26:28 and Jon McGonagle (Portland, Maine) in 119th place with a time of 27:06. Also competing for Maine were David Englehutt (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) with a time of 27:12 and David Woods (York, Maine) in 27:22.

The top women's finisher for the Black Bears was Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) who was 26th overall with a time of 18:42. Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) was close behind in 28th place with a time of 18:44. Lauren LaRoche (Auburn, Maine) was 146th overall with a time of 20:13, Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) was 179th in 20:34 and Teig Choroszy (Saco, Maine) rounded out the top five with a time of 20:37 for 187th overall. Also running for the Black Bears were Erin Lawler (Waterville, Maine) in 20:59 and Jessica Hudec (Chicago, Ill.) in 21:07.
