Maine Men Third, Women Sixth In America East Cross Country Championships

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine hosted the America East Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in cold and rainy conditions. The Maine men were third overall with 62 points, while the women finished sixth with 140 points. Kirby Davis repeated as men's individual champion and Jessica Belliveau was the top women's finisher in fourteenth place. For the men, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was even with New Hampshire's Jordan Horwitz with less than 200 yards to go, but a strong finishing push by Davis gave him the two second victory in 24:32.40. Davis is the only Black Bear to have won an America East cross country individual championship and just the third student-athlete in conference history to win back-to-back championships. Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) was fifth with a time of 24:53.60. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was 13th overall in 25:26.00, while freshman Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) was 18th in 25:33.10. Jon McGonagle (Portland, Maine) crossed the line 25th overall in 25:47.10 to complete the top five scorers for Maine. In the women's five kilometer race, Catherine Parker of New Hampshire won the race with a time of 16:50.30, the fastest time in conference history. Maine was led by freshman Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick), crossing the line in 18:01.70. Fellow freshman Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) was 24th overall in 18:24.40, while Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was 32nd overall with a time of 18:50.50. Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) crossed the line in 19:00.20 in 37th place and Brenna Walsh (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) was 44th in 19:22.90 to wrap-up the scorers for Maine.
Overall in the men's race, New Hampshire was first with 58 points, Stony Brook second with 61 points, Maine third with 62 points and Boston University with 70 points. Vermont (154), UMBC (175), Albany (178), Binghamton (183) and Hartford (269) rounded out the scoring. In the women's team standings, Boston University was first with 47 points, followed by New Hampshire with 77 points, Stony Brook with 89 points and Vermont with 110 points. Binghamton (134), Maine (140), Albany (152), UMBC (198) and Hartford (257) completed the standings. This marked the fourth time the conference championship has been held at Maine and the first since 2001. Maine will next race on November 11 in the NCAA Regional Qualifier in New York.
