Cross Country Competes at America East Championships

COCKEYSVILLE, Md.--The University of Maine men's and women's cross country teams competed at the America East Championships on Saturday afternoon at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md. Both teams placed seventh in their respective races. Riley Masters (Bangor, Maine) led the men's team with a 16th place finish while Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) placed 11th to lead the women's team. Masters was the top male freshman in the race while Conner was the second-fastest freshman to cross the line.

Masters finished the 8,000 meter race in a time of 26:20.8, and was followed in 25th place by Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) who had a time of 26:43.1. Charles Therriault (Clinton, Mass.) came in 29th with a time of 26:50.6 while Corey Bean (Cornville, Maine) placed 44th with a time of 27:29.8.

On the women's side, Conner ran the 5,000 meter course in a time of 18:04.5 and was followed in 31st place by Hilary Maxim (Old Town, Maine) who ran the course in a time of 18:55.1. Chelsea Leeman (Brunswick, Maine) came in 39th with a time of 19:05.6 and was closely followed in 40th by Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine) with a time of 19:14.8.

New Hampshire won the team title on the men's side while Tim Hodge from Stony Brook was the individual winner. On the women's side, Stony Brook took the team championship and Boston University's Andrea Walkonen won the individual title.

The men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Nov.15 at the NCAA Qualifier in New York, N.Y.
