![]() Davis Named America East Cross Country Performer of Week
Oct. 4, 2005 BOSTON, Mass. - Maine's Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) and Stony Brook's Leonora Joy (Auckland,New Zealand) have been named the America East men's and women's Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday. Davis was Maine's top finisher in the 14th Annual Murray Keating Invitational, taking 18th place. His time of 24:38.40 was the fastest by a Maine runner this season. In the meet, national power Stanford had seven of the top-10 finishers, with Dartmouth taking the other three top-10 times. As a team, Maine placed fifth overall, behind Stanford, Dartmouth, Iowa and Boston College. Maine defeated America East rival New Hampshire in the meet. He is the third men's cross country runner from Maine to be honored this season, joining Donald Drake and David Woods.
Joy finished third overall to lead Stony Brook at the 32nd Annual Paul Short Invitational on Saturday. The senior crossed third in 20:35.8 over the
6K distance to help lead the Seawolves to a ninth-place team finish at the nationally renowned race that featured four teams ranked in the top 25
in the country and six others ranked within their own region.
