Position:
Assistant Coach

Rita Sullivan (Maine `95) enters her first season as an assistant coach on the Maine coaching staff.

"I am very excited to name Rita Sullivan to the Maine coaching staff," Blodgett said. "Being from Maine, she understands what the program is all about and the level of success that we are trying to get back to."

Sullivan served as a student assistant coach at Maine for the first half of the 1995-96 season, as the Black Bears won the North Atlantic Conference championship. Sullivan graduated with honors from Maine in December 1995 with a degree in journalism. Following graduation, Sullivan served as an assistant coach at Bangor High School under coach Tom Tennett, as she helped lead the Rams to the state playoffs. She also served as head coach of the girls' basketball team at All Saints Catholic School in Bangor from 2003-05.

She worked as the manager of basketball communications for the WNBA from 2001-03 and facilitated several media needs including the WNBA Draft, All-Star Game and Finals. Sullivan toured with the U.S. team to China for the 2002 World Championships and served occassionally as a practice player for the team, which was coached by head coach Van Chancellor (current LSU women's basketball coach) and assistant coach Gail Goestenkors (current Texas women's basketball coach). Sullivan also worked as a staff writer in the editorial department of the NBA from 1999-2001.

A two-time captain, Sullivan earned four letters at Maine during her playing career from 1991-95. As a senior captain in 1994-95, Sullivan helped lead the Black Bears to a 24-6 record, the North Atlantic Conference championship (the school's first conference title in four years) and the school's inaugural berth in the NCAA Tournament.
