ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's basketball team dropped a 56-38 decision to Hartford on Saturday night in front of 2,929 fans at Alfond Arena in Orono.

Maine dipped to 4-13 overall on the season and 1-3 in America East. The Hawks ran their record to 13-4 and 3-1 in the league.

Sophomore guard Amanda Tewksbury scored a team-high 11 points for Maine and grabbed 10 rebounds. It marked the second-straight game she led the Black Bears in scoring. It also marked the first double-double of her career.

Danielle Hood led Hartford in scoring with 15 points, while Diana Delva pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.

Hood and Tewksbury were named the America East Players of the Game for their efforts.

Maine hung tough with Hartford for the first 12 minutes of the contest, including holding a 6-4 advantage early on with back-to-back baskets from Kris Younan and Tewksbury.

A Brittany Boser jumper in the lane at the 8:23 mark of the first half pulled the Black Bears within two at 13-11. However, the Hawks outscored Maine 18-8 the rest of the half in building a 31-19 edge at intermission. Tewksbury paced Maine with eight points in the opening 20 minutes while shooting a solid 4-of-6 from the floor.

Her and Christina Mosher each pulled down four boards in the frame for the Black Bears. The Black Bears, as a team, out-rebounded the Hawks by a count of 19-12 in the half.

Hartford never let its lead slip below double-digits the entire second half in earning the win.

Maine returns to action on Wednesday night when the Black Bears play host to Boston University at 7:30 p.m., in Alfond Arena. Tickets still remain for the contest and can be purchased by calling 581-BEAR or toll-free (800) 756-TEAM.
