Box Score

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's basketball team dropped a 69-54 decision to Albany on Wednesday night at Alfond Arena in Orono. The Black Bears fell to 6-17 on the season and 3-7 in America East. The Great Danes won their fifth-straight game to improve to 9-14 and 7-3 in the league.

Maine sophomore guard Amanda Tewksbury netted a team-high 11 points, marking the sixth time in the last eight games she has led the team in scoring. She also added 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Colleen Kilmurray and Tanna Ross each tossed in 10 points to round out the double-figure scorers for the Black Bears. Christina Mosher added six points and eight rebounds, marking the third time in the last five games she has pulled down at least seven boards.

Gia Sanders paced Albany with a game-high 19 points and six rebounds, while Kristin Higy added 15 points and five boards. Britney McGee handed out a team-high 10 assists for the Great Danes.

Albany, which led the entire game, opened the contest on an 8-0 run. The Black Bears fought back near the end of the half and used a 7-0 run over the final 1:39 to pull within 36-30 at halftime. Kris Younan aided the run by scoring four points.

However, the Great Danes ended Maine's rally by scoring nine of the first 12 points in the second half to open up a 45-33 lead. Albany never looked back in earning the win.

Maine out-rebounded the Great Danes 39-28, and has yet to be out-rebounded by a conference opponent in 10 games this season.

The Black Bears return to action Saturday when they play host to Stony Brook at 12 p.m., in Alfond Arena. Maine will be hosting "Think Pink" Day, which will honor the courageous battle against breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink clothing in support of the day.
