HARTFORD, Conn. - Danielle Hood scored a game-high 17 points to lead No. 1-seed Hartford to a 58-35 win over No. 8-seed Maine in the quarterfinals of the 2006 America East Women's Basketball Tournament Friday night at Chase Arena.

Bracey Barker netted a team-high 11 points for Maine, which finished the 2005-06 season with a 10-19 record. Ashley Underwood chipped in nine points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Erika Messam added 11 points for the Hawks, who improved to 24-3. Hartford entered the tournament as the top seed after winning the conference regular season championship.

Maine did get within six at 26-20 with 19:01 remaining in the contest on an Underwood three-pointer. However, the Black Bears went scoreless for the next 11 minutes while Hartford used a 21-0 run to take a commanding 47-20 advantage. The Hawks never let the lead go below 20 points the rest of the game.
