Women's Basketball Falls at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The University of Maine women's basketball team dropped a 76-54 decision to Fairfield on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall in Fairfield, Conn. The Black Bears dipped to 1-6, while the Stags improved to 6-1.

Amanda Tewksbury led Maine with 12 points, marking the second-straight game she led the Black Bears in scoring. Tewksbury scored seven of her 12 points in the second half.

Baendu Lowenthal led Fairfield with 18 points, while Sabra Wrice chipped in 16 points for the Stags.

Fairfield shot 47 percent (15-of-32) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Lowenthal and Lauren Groom each led the Stags with eight points in the period to help Fairfield build a 39-21 lead at halftime. Brittany Boser had eight points in the half for the Black Bears.

The Stags opened the second half by going on a 15-0 run to raise their advantage to 54-21 with 16:29 to go in the game. Fairfield's lead never slipped below double-digits the rest of the contest.

Maine returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Amherst, Mass., to face Massachusetts at 12 p.m., at the Mullins Center.
