Bracey Barker Named to All-America East Third-Team

March 9, 2006

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior forward Bracey Barker (Bar Harbor, Maine) was named a Third-Team All-America East selection on Thursday at the annual awards brunch hosted by the league. It marks the second-consecutive season Barker was named to the third-team.

For the season, Barker averaged 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds a game. Barker finished sixth in the league in scoring and seventh in rebounding. She was one of just five players in America East this season to finish in the top 10 in both categories. Barker also finished fourth in the league in free-throw percentage at .826 (71-of-86). Barker increased her production in conference play, as she finished fourth in the standings at 14.9 points a game in league action.

Barker, who has started all 57 games since the beginning of the 2004-05 season, shared team-high honors with Ashley Underwood (Augusta, Maine) this season for double-figure scoring games (19) and 20-point performances (6). Her top point total this season was a career-high equaling 26 points at Boston University on Jan. 29. On the boards, Barker pulled down at least five rebounds in 22 games, including 15 of the last 18 contests during the regular season.

Points and rebounds weren't the only statistics Barker registered this season. She dished out at least three assists in 12 games, including three with at least five. Barker also led the team in blocks in 10 games this season, including a pair of contests with a career-high three each.

Barker's all-conference selection is the 41st honor in the storied history of University of Maine women's basketball program. She is also the 12th player in program history to be named an all-conference selection multiple times.

Maine will begin post-season play Thursday night, when as the eighth-seed, it will take on No. 9-seed Albany in the first round at 7 p.m., at Chase Arena in Hartford. The winner of the contest will face No. 1-seed and regular season champion Hartford on Friday at 6 p.m.
