Men's & Women's Basketball Takes Part in Blue-White Scrimmages on Sunday

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's basketball teams each hosted a Blue-White scrimmage on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Arena in Orono.

The women opened the day and held a 40-minute scrimmage divided up into two 20-minute halves. The Blue topped the White 55-52. The Blue was led by senior forward Colleen Kilmurray, who posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She also logged five assists and was 3-of-3 shooting from three-point range. The Blue also received valuable contributions from Tanna Ross (13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block), Kristin Baker (12 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds) and Katia Bratishko (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block).

The White was led by junior forward Brittany Boser's double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Boser also handed out four assists and blocked a pair of shots. Joining Boser in the White's strong effort was Amanda Tewksbury (game-high 22 points), Jasmine Rush (9 points, 4 rebounds) and Samantha Baranowski (7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block). The game was close all the way throughout and was tied at 24 at halftime.

The men concluded the day with a 30-minute scrimmage divided up into two 15-minute halves. The Blue was victorious with a 49-37 triumph. Mark Socoby led the Blue with 14 points, including knocking down four three pointers. Gerald McLemore netted 13 points and had seven boards, while Junior Bernal chipped in with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Malachi Peay (7 points), Andrew Rogers (2 points) and Svetoslav Chetinov (2 points) rounded out the scoring for the Blue.

 

 

The White was led by 12 points from Sean McNally, who also pulled down seven rebounds. Troy Barnies was White's other double-figure scorer with 10 points. Jon McAllian (9 points) and Kaimondre Owes (6 points) rounded out the scorers for the White. Both teams exchanged players throughout so the coaching staff could get a look at different lineups on the floor.

Both teams return to the court next Sunday when they play host to an exhibition doubleheader in Alfond Arena. The women's team will play host to New Brunswick at 12 p.m., while the men will face Laval at 3 p.m.
