THIS IS MAINE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The University of Maine women's basketball program has a lot to offer an aspiring student-athlete. The program has a rich tradition with an even brighter future under the guidance of head coach Cindy Blodgett and her staff. The University of Maine is a widely recognized school, which provides an outstanding education. Black Bear student-athletes receive outstanding support in the areas of academics, athletic training, strength & conditioning, and community involvement. The Black Bears play in Alfond Arena with a seating capacity of 5,633, which rates as one of the largest arenas for women's basketball in America East and throughout the Northeast.

Here are just some of the outstanding facts about the Maine women's basketball program and the University:

  • Maine has appeared in seven NCAA Tournaments, the most in America East history.
  • Four Black Bears have gone on to earn 14 All-America honors.
  • There have been nine America East Player-of-the-Year awards in program history.
  • The Princeton Review rates Maine among the top 20 'best bargains' among public colleges and universities in the U.S.
  • The University of Maine offers 88 bachelor's programs and 64 master's programs.
  • The student/faculty ratio at the University is only 15:1, which allows students the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with their professors, who are some of the leading experts in their respective fields.
  • Members of the women's basketball team achieve success in the classroom. The 2006-07 team saw 12 of its 14 members named Maine Scholar-Athletes for earning GPAs of 3.0 or better.
  • The Maine Sports Medicine Staff includes six certified athletic trainers and one graduate assistant certified athletic trainer, a team physician, an orthopedic physician, a wide variety of medical specialists and student-athletic trainers. Other specialists on the Maine athletic health care team include an optometrist, a chiropractor and a dentist.
  • The Maine strength and conditioning program is a sophisticated blend of science, technology, nutrition and one-on-one attention to each athlete. The strength & conditioning components include: strength, speed, power, agility, flexibility, metabolic conditioning and motivation.
