Katie Flaherty joins the Maine coaching staff for the 2007 season as a graduate assistant. Flaherty is a former three-time captain of the Black Bears.

"I am very happy to have Katie Flaherty join our coaching staff and remain a part of the UMaine Field Hockey program," said head coach Josette Babineau. "Katie is a three-time captain of the program and she will continue to bring leadership and experience to the team. She is respected by everyone in the program and we are very excited to have her complete our staff."

Flaherty saw action in 54 career games for the Black Bears at midfield and scored one goal and added eight assists for 10 points. In 2006, she was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team. She also earned a spot on the 2006 America East Second Team. Flaherty has been named to the America East All-Tournament team twice. She was named a UMaine Scholar-Athlete Award winner and has also been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Flaherty came to Maine after an outstanding high school career where she led Winslow High School to three state championships and was named Miss Maine Field Hockey.

Flaherty graduated in December 2006 with a degree in kinesiology and physical education with a concentration in teaching and coaching. She is pursuing her master's in exercise science.
