Box Score

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Maine field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to fifth-ranked UConn on Saturday afternoon in the season-opener for both teams. The game was the debut for first-year Maine head coach Josette Babineau.

The game was scoreless the majority of the first half. UConn broke the deadlock 28:04 into the contest when Lauren Aird scored on a shot from the center of the circle, beating Maine goalie Maygan Cassarino (Milford, N.H.). The Huskies took the 1-0 lead into intermission.

UConn added to its lead just 4:26 into the second half when Lizzy Peijs scored on a shot from the top of the right circle. Jennifer Kleinhans and Katie Semanoff both assisted on the goal for the Huskies.

Cassarino made seven saves in goal for the Black Bears.

Maine returns to action on Sunday, August 26 when it faces Sacred Heart in Storrs, Conn. at 2:00 p.m.
