Field Hockey Falls to #4 UConn
Sept. 1, 2008
STORRS, Conn.--The University of Maine field hockey team fell to the University of Connecticut by the score of 4-1 on Monday afternoon in Storrs, Conn. With the loss, Maine fell to 1-1 on the season while Connecticut, the fourth-ranked team in the country, improved to 2-0. Sophomore Máire Dineen (Toronto, Ontario) notched her first goal of the season for the Black Bears. The Black Bears stayed right with last year's National Semifinalist, and went into halftime down 1-0. Freshman goalie Brittany Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia) made four saves in the first half. The Huskies scored two goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half to take a 3-0 lead. However, Maine kept battling, and got on the board when Dineen dribbled by a couple of Husky defenders and rifled a shot from the top of the circle that went into the right side of the cage. The Black Bears had chances to draw the game closer, but Connecticut was able to hang on and add another one late in the game. Fleck finished with seven saves for the Black Bears. The Black Bears return to action on Sunday when they play their first home game of the season against Brown at 12 p.m.
