Albany Field Hockey Downs Maine

ORONO, Maine-- The University of Maine field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision at Albany on Saturday afternoon. The Black Bears fall to 3-8 on the season, 0-1 in America East play. Albany improves to 8-3 on the season, 1-0 in conference play. Albany opened the scoring when Michelle Simpson scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season from Nicole Savage. The Great Danes took the 1-0 lead into the second half. Albany added to its lead early in the second half. Vanessa Walter scored her third goal of the season from Michelle Simpson. The Great Danes made it 3-0 when Kristen Holder scored off a penalty corner from Nicole Savage. For Savage, it was her second assist for the game. Albany held an 18-7 advantage in shots in the game. The Great Danes had an eight to five edge in penalty corners. Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) made nine saves in goal for Maine. She falls to 2-6 on the season. Ashley Ross stopped four shots in goal for the Great Danes. Joanna Fernandes (Mississauga, Ontario) and Amy Zdrojesky (East Greenville, Pa.) each recorded a pair of shots for the Black Bears. The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, October 7 when they host Vermont at 2:00 p.m. on Morse Field at Alfond Stadium in Orono, Maine.
