Field Hockey Falls to New Hampshire in Double Overtime

DURHAM, N.H.-- The University of Maine field hockey team fell to New Hampshire in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in Durham, N.H. Maine falls to 4-8 on the season and 0-2 in America East play, while New Hampshire improves to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The two teams played through a scoreless first half. Maine struck first when Jackie D'Amato (Upton, Mass.) scored off a penalty corner. Kristen Healy (Turner, Maine) assisted on the goal for the Black Bears which was scored at 52:36.

New Hampshire answered back just under 15 minutes later when Cally Cooke scored on a penalty stroke. Neither team would score the remainder of regulation or during the first overtime period.

Sam Geary got the game-winner for the Wildcats at 100:00 from Kiera Williams.

New Hampshire outshot Maine 24-14 in the game. Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Amy Zdrojesky (East Greenville, Pa.) each had four shots in the game.

Maine goalie Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) made 12 saves in goal for the Black Bears. Margaux Shute stopped six shots for the Wildcats.

Maine returns to action on Friday, Oct. 12 when it hosts Boston University at 6 p.m.
