Field Hockey Falls to Quinnipiac in Overtime 2-1

Hamden, Conn..-- The University of Maine field hockey team fell to Quinnipiac 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday afternoon in Hamden, Conn. The Black Bears fall to 8-5 on the season, while Quinnipiac improves to 8-5 on the campaign.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring when Cheryl Torino scored her first goal of the season on a shot from the top of the circle at 22:02.

Katy LePage (Skowhegan, Maine) tied the game for Maine when she beat Bobcat goalie Erin McKay with a deflection off a shot at 45:08. For LePage, it was her fifth goal of the season. Kasey Spencer (Old Town, Maine) assisted on the goal for the Black Bears.

The game remained tied until Jaime Cassesse beat Maine goalie Maygan Casserino (Milford, N.H.) with a shot from the left side of the circle at 80:26. Each of Maine's last two losses have come in overtime.

Maine outshot Quinnipiac 15-10 in the game, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. Erin Reusch (Salem, N.H.) led Maine with four shots on goal in the game.

Maine goalie Maygan Casserino made three saves in goal for the Black Bears. She falls to 1-1 on the season. Erin McKay stopped nine shots in goal for the Bobcats.

The Black Bears return to action on Friday, October 14 when they travel to New Hampshire for an America East game with the Wildcats.
