Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The University of Maine field hockey fell to #16 Rutgers by the score of 3-2 in Providence, R.I. on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Maine is now 3-9 on the year while Rutgers is 11-3. Maine was led by Courtney Veinotte (Canaan, Maine) who had a goal and an assist.

Maine fell behind 8:53 into the first half when Rutgers' Katie Feeley (Collingswood, N.J.) found Amy Lewis (Hainesport, N.J.) and she beat Maine goalie Brittany Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia).

The Black Bears tied the game 15 minutes later when Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) found Veinotte off a corner play and she beat Rutgers goalie Lauren DeCerbo (Tabernacle, N.J.).

Feeley would score two more goals for Rutgers at 28:35 and 52:54 before Maine would cut the lead in half via an Ellen Andrews (New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island) goal from Newton and Veinotte. The Black Bears continued to play hard, but ran out of time.

Rutgers outshot the Black Bears 16-to-12, but both teams had six shots on net. DeCerbo had four saves for Rutgers while Fleck finished with three for Maine.

Maine returns to action on Saturday when the Black Bears travel to take on Boston University at 4 p.m.
