Field Hockey Downs UNH 3-2 in Overtime

DURHAM, N.H.--Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I.) scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the University of Maine field hockey team beat New Hampshire 3-2 on Friday afternoon. The Black Bears improve to 9-5 on the season and 3-0 in America East play.

Maine opened the scoring at 32:49 when Katy LePage (Skowhegan, Maine) scored off a rebound of her own blocked shot. Kasey Spencer (Old Town, Maine) picked up an assist on the goal. It was the sixth goal of the season for LePage.

The Black Bears took a 2-0 lead when Spencer scored from MacDonald off a penalty corner. For Spencer, it was her sixth goal of the season.

New Hampshire used second half goals by Katie White and Shauna Sellenger to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of regulation.

MacDonald scored the game-winner for Maine on a breakaway at 74:52. She broke in alone and moved around the goalkeeper and shot the ball into an open cage. For MacDonald, it was her sixth goal of the season and team-leading third game-winner.

New Hampshire outshot Maine 16-10 in the game. Maine goalie Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) made six saves in goal for the Black Bears. She improves to 7-4-0 on the season. Margaux Shute made five saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Maine returns to action on Sunday, October 16 when they travel to Dartmouth for a 12:00 noon game with the Big Green.
