Field Hockey Falls to Vermont

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Vermont on Friday afternoon in Orono, Maine. The Black Bears fell to 4-11 overall while Vermont improved to 11-5. With the loss, Maine fell to 0-4 in conference play while Vermont improved to 3-1 in America East. Brooke Anderson (Lovell, Maine)scored the lone goal for Maine in the contest at 21:23. Anderson deflected a shot from outside the scoring area by Nicole Emery (Winthrop, Maine). Senior Goalie Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) started in goal for the Black Bears. Giroux made five saves in the contest. The Black Bears were outshot by Vermont 11-5. Vermont tied the game at 42:24 when Danielle Collins stole the ball and beat Maine goalie Giroux at 42:24. For Collings, it was her 15th goal of the season. The Catamounts got the game-winner at 47:50 when on an odd-person rush. Collins fed Kelly McClintock and she scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Before the game, Maine honored seniors Rebecca Giroux, Kristen Healy, Christie Mosley, Erin Reusch and Amy Zdrojesky. Maine returns to action on Saturday October 27 when they travel to Fairfield for their final game of the regular season.
