Connolly Leads Maine Field Hockey Past Albany

SCHENECTADY, N.Y- Meagan Connolly (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored the game-winner in double overtime as the University of Maine field hockey team defeated Albany 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Black Bears improves to 12-4 on the season and 4-1 in America East play, while Albany falls to 7-10 and 2-3 in conference play. Albany opened the scoring with 6:26 remaining in the first half when Danielle Conklin notched her first career goal from Alexis Johnson off a penalty corner. The Black Bears tied the game with just 1:10 remaining in the half when Traci Rainone (East Greenwich, R.I.) tallied her seventh goal of the season off a penalty corner. Emily Dooling (Winthrop, Maine) assisted on the goal. The game remained tied through the second half and the first overtime. Maine scored the game-winner in the second sudden death overtime period. Connolly broke the 1-1 tie when she scored off a penalty corner after being set up by Dooling. For Connolly, it was her sixth goal of the season and first game-winner. Dooling recorded her second assist of the game and sixth of the season on the play. The game was the fifth overtime contest of the year for the Black Bears. Maine has a 3-2 record in those games. Albany outshot Maine 13-9 in the game. Jamie Morin (Winslow, Maine) made six saves in goal for Maine and improves to 12-4 on the season. Barbara Czaplinski made four saves for the Great Danes. The Black Bears return to action Saturday, October 30 when they host archrival Northeastern at noon on Morse Field at Alfond Stadium.
