Field Hockey Defeats Fairfield 2-1 in Season Finale
Oct. 27, 2007 FAIRFIELD, Conn-- The University of Maine field hockey team beat Fairfield 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in the season finale. The Black Bears finish the season with a record of 5-11, 1-4 in America East play. Fairfield falls to 3-17 on the season and 0-5 in conference play. Fairfield is a member of America East in the sport of field hockey. Fairfield opened the scoring 13:24 into the game when Anne Nieuwenhuis notched an unassisted goal off a rebound. Maine tied the game at 19:50 when Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I.) scored her third goal of the season. Maine got the game-winner off a penalty corner at 28:34. Amy Zdrojesky (East Greenville, Pa) beat Fairfield goalie Elizabeth Thomas for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Erin Reusch (Salem, N.H.) and Nicole Emery (Winthrop, Maine) each assisted on the game-winning goal for the Black Bears. Fairfield finished the game with a 9-8 advantage in shots. Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) finished the game with four saves, including stopping a penalty stroke. She improves to 3-7 on the season. Thomas made four saves for Fairfield.
