Field Hockey Advances To America East Championship

Nov. 4, 2005

Box Score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Gina Legge (North Harwich, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the game to propel the University of Maine field hockey team past Albany and into the America East Championship game to be played on Saturday afternoon. The Black Bears, who will be playing in their third America East Championship game, will face Boston University for the title.

Maine and Albany were evenly matched as both team recorded three shots and five penalty corners. Legge scored at 17:21 and that proved to be all Maine would need. For Legge, it was her second goal of the season and first game-winner.

Black Bear goalie Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) posted her fifth shutout of the season and fourth in her last five games. She made one save in the game. Giroux improves to 11-5-0 on the season.

The Black Bears, who improve to 13-6 on the season, are looking for the first America East Championship when they face Boston University on Saturday afternoon. The game between the Black Bears and Terriers will start at 3:00 p.m. at Jack Berry Field in Cambridge, Mass.
