Field Hockey Falls in Overtime at America East Semi-finals

ALBANY, N.Y.--The University of Maine field hockey fell in the America East Semi-finals to New Hampshire by the score of 3-2 in overtime in Albany, N.Y. on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Black Bears end up a solid 2008 campaign with a 6-11 record while New Hampshire goes to 9-10. Maine was led by 2008 America East Rookie of the Year Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Jocelyn Mitchell (Kanata, Ontario) who each notched a goal. Maine fell behind 29 minutes into the game when New Hampshire's Kyle Lyons scored on a penalty stroke. The Black Bears would get one back at the 47-minute mark when Newton scored her ninth goal of the season on a rebound off a corner play. The Wildcats took the lead six minutes later when Meg Shea scored off a pass from Sarah Craigue. Mitchell tied the game for Maine in the 59th minute when she carried the ball into the circle and rifled a shot from the left side for her fifth goal of the season. The teams went into overtime and Meg Shea scored for New Hampshire in the 75th minute. The Black Bears were outshot by a 21-to-20 margin, but had 13 shots on goal to New Hampshire's nine. Brittany Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia) made six saves in net for Maine while Jenna Lehman made 11 saves for New Hampshire.
