Field Hockey Receives Nine Commitments
Feb. 10, 2006 ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine interim field hockey coach Andrea Thebarge announced today that her program has received nine commitments for the 2006 season. Alyssa Cloutier (Augusta, Maine), Mallory Shute (Norridgewock, Maine), Mallory Anderson (Hampton, N.H.) and Maggie O'Brian (Lehighton, Pa.) have all signed National Letters of Intent to join the Black Bears in the fall of 2006. In addition, Kady Ackerson (Concord, N.H.), Jackie D'Amato (Upton, Mass.), Abigail Herrick (Westbrook, Conn.), Lynsey Seymour (Randolph, Maine) and Sarah Wyman (Brunswick, Maine) have also committed to attend the University of Maine and play field hockey. "I'm really looking forward to having these nine young ladies join our program," said Thebarge. "They are a very talented group with great potential. I expect to see Alyssa, Mallory Shute, Mallory Anderson and Maggie contribute right away. Lynsey, Kady and Jackie are very skilled and should look to compete for playing time as well. Abigail and Sarah are a great addition to our goal keeping and will challenge our two current goalies." Cloutier is a defender who served as captain during the 2005 season for Cony HS. She is a three-time All-KVAC First Team selection earning the honors in 2003, 2004 and 2005. She also earned All-State honors in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Cloutier earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association Regional All-America honors in 2004 and 2005. She is a three-time Kennebec Journal First Team selection and earned Kennebec Journal Player of the Year honors in 2005. In addition, Cloutier earned Maine Sunday Telegram All-State honors in 2004 and 2005. She was part of the Maine Event Team in 2004 and 2005 and a Futures Participant in 2005. Cloutier was a nominee for Miss Maine Field Hockey. Shute is a defender from Skowhegan High School. She led Skowhegan to four Class A State Championships and earned NFHCA All-Region Honors in 2004 and 2005. She participated in the National Futures Tournament for four years and was named a Futures Elite in 2005 and 2006. Shute was also a nominee for Miss Maine Field Hockey. Anderson is a forward who served as captain for Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, N.H. She is a two-time First Team All-State selection and was named a Northeast Regional All-American in 2005. She earned Foster's Daily Democrat and Portsmouth Herald Player of the Year honors in 2005. She was named to the New Hampshire Granite All-State Team in 2005 and the Varsity Magazine N.H. and Vermont Player of the Year in 2005. Anderson participated in the Futures National Tournament in 2002-2005. She holds the Winnacunnet record for goals in a season of 21 in 2004 and also holds the career goals record with 43. O'Brian was a four-year starter for Lehighton Area High School in Lehighton, Pa. Her team finished as the Mountain Valley Conference champions for three years in a row. She participated in the U14-U19 Indoor Nationals and the Keystone State games in which her team placed second. O'Brian participated in the National Hockey Festival from 2003-2005 and was also a Future's Participant. Ackerson is a defender who served as captain for Concord High School. Her team won the 2004 State Championship. Ackerson was a Futures Participant and a member of the Seacoast United Club team. D'Amato is a midfielder from Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton, Mass. She was a participant in the 2005 Bay State Games and helped lead her team to a Division II title in 2004. Herrick, a goalkeeper, served as captain as a senior at Westbrook High School in Conn. She was named an All-State First Team selection in 2004 and 2005. Herrick earned CAIC Academic All-State honors in 2005. She was named MVP of the Senior All-Star Game in 2005. She was named a Hartford Courant All-State selection in 2005. Her team won the National Hockey Festival Championship in 2005. Herrick was named to the All-Shoreline Conference team in 2004 and 2005. She also named a Shoreline Conference Scholar-Athlete in 2004. Herrick was also a Futures Participant in 2004 and 2005. Seymour was a four-year starter for Gardiner High School. She earned All-State honors in 2004 and 2005. Seymour also received NFHCA All-American honors. She was a captain at Gardner and was also a Maine Events Participant for four years. She finished her high school career with 30 goals, 34 assists for 94 points. She holds the school record for career assists. Wyman is a goalie from Brunswick High School. She earned All-Conference honors in 2004 and 2005. Wyman led her team to the state playoffs in 2005. In 2005, she made 156 saves. All National Letter of Intent signings are contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
