Kelly Newton Named America East Rookie of the Week

ORONO, Maine.--University of Maine field hockey freshman forward Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Newton scored twice over the weekend for the Black Bears. Newton scored both of Maine's goals in the Black Bears' win over Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon. In Maine's game against the fourth-ranked Connecticut Huskies she played very well, creating several scoring opportunities. Newton leads Maine and America East in goals scored with two, and in points with four. The Black Bears return to action on Sunday when they host Brown in their home opener at 12 p.m.
