Field Hockey to Face Northeastern in America East Semifinals

ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine of Maine women's soccer and field hockey teams will both participate in the America East Tournament this weekend. Both teams will play semifinal games on Friday.

The women's soccer team earned a share of the America East Title with a 6-3 record in conference play. It is the first time that Maine has ever earned a share of the title. Binghamton earned the number one seed, followed by Maine who got the second seed and New Hampshire the third seed. The tournament will be played at Binghamton University in Vestal, N.Y. with the semifinals on Friday, November 5 and the finals on Sunday, November 7.

Maine, who received a bye in the first round, will face the winner of the New Hampshire/Hartford game which will be played on Tuesday, November 2. The Maine game will be played on Friday, November 5 at 1:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the championship game which will be played on Sunday, November 7 at noon.

The Black Bears are 12-5-1 on the season. Maine is led by Heather Hathorn (Scarborough, Maine) who has nine goals and nine assists for 27 points. Rookie Marie-Andree Canuel (St.-Jean-Chrysostome, N.Y.) has a team-high 10 goals and two assists for 22 points. Laura Harper (Ottawa, Ontario) is chipping in with six goals and one assists for 13 points. Erin Corey (Winslow, Maine) has five goals on the season and all of them have been game-winners. Tanya Adorno (Farmington, Conn.) has seen action in 16 games in goal and is 10-5-1 with a 0.55 goals against average and a .804 save percentage.

The field hockey team is 12-6 on the season and finished 4-2 in conference play. The Black Bears are the third seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and will face the Northeastern Huskies in the semifinals. The game will be played on Friday, November 5 at Jack Barry Field in Cambridge, Mass. at 11:30 am. Boston University and New Hampshire will participate in the other semifinal game. The Championship game will be played on Sunday, November 7 at 11:30 am.

Maine is led by Rachael Hilgar (Barto, Pa.) who has eight goals and seven assists for 23 points. Traci Rainone (East Greenwich, R.I.) is chipping in with seven goals and three assists for 17 points, while Kasey Spencer (Old Town, Maine) has eight goals for 16 points. Jamie Morin (Winslow, Maine) is 12-6 in goal with a 1.29 goals against average and a .811 save percentage.

The winner of both the America East soccer and field hockey championships receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
