![]() Field Hockey Coach Terry Kix Resigns
Nov. 9, 2005 ORONO, Maine- University of Maine field hockey coach Terry Kix has resigned her position to pursue other opportunities. Kix, who led the Black Bears to a share of the America East title in 2005 and was named America East Coach of the Year, has also resigned her position as senior women's administrator. "We greatly appreciate all that Terry has done for the University of Maine over the past fifteen years," said Maine Interim Director of Athletics Blake James. "She has done a terrific job with our field hockey program, building it into one of the top teams in the region. Her work over the past three years as senior women's administrator has also been greatly appreciated. The Black Bears family will miss her and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors. In our search for a new coach, we will look for someone who can continue the tradition that Terry has established here at Maine." Kix finishes her career as Maine's all-time winningest coach with a record of 174-109-5 in fifteen seasons. She led Maine to a school-record seventeen wins in 1996 when the team finished 18th in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. The Black Bears have won 10 or more games in eleven of her fifteen seasons and twelve or more games each of the past four years. "I am very appreciative of the opportunity that the University of Maine has given me," said Kix. "I am extremely blessed to have worked with a tremendous staff and terrific student-athletes at the University of Maine. It has been a tremendous ride and one that I will cherish forever." Maine qualified for the America East Tournament during nine of her fifteen years and played in the title game three of the past four years. Kix earned America East Coach of the Year honors in 1993, 1995, 2002 and 2005. In 1993, Kix earned Northeast Region Coach of the Year honors. Individual student-athletes have also excelled under her leadership. Five players have earned NFHCA All-America honors, while fourteen have earned NFHCA National Academic Squad honors. She has coached 33 players who have earned America East All-Conference honors and two America East Rookies of the Year. A 1985 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Kix was a member of the Huskies 1981 National Championship team and reached the final four in each of her four seasons at UConn. Before coming to Maine, she was an assistant coach at UConn as they won their second National Championship in 1985.
