Kelly Newton and Máire Dineen Named to Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region Teams

ORONO, Maine--University of Maine field hockey players Kelly Newton (Vancouver, British Columbia) and Máire Dineen (Toronto, Ontario) have been named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams. Newton was a First Team selction while Dineen was a Second Team selection.

Newton, a freshman forward, was the 2008 America East Rookie of the Year and All-America East First Team selction, led the conference with 1.67 points per game and was twice named the America East Rookie of the Week.

Dineen, a sophomore midfielder, was named to the 2008 All-America East First Team. She had four assists in league play which was tops in America East. Dineen was also instrumental on the defensive end, as the Black Bears lowered their goals allowed by nearly a goal per game in the second half of the season.

Maine finished tied for second in America East, and earned the third seed for the America East playoffs this season.
