Women's Ice Hockey Shutout 6-0 At Boston College

Jan. 28, 2007

Final Stats

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated 6-0 by the ninth-ranked Boston College Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Kelley Rink. Allie Thunstrom and Kelli Stack each potted a pair of goals for the Eagles. With the win, Boston College moves to 18-6-2 overall and first in Hockey East at 12-4-0, while Maine falls to 7-15-2 overall and 2-10-2 in conference play.

Boston College's Becky Zavisza took several hard shots on goal to open the first period--including one shorthanded--but it was line mate Deborah Spillane who scored the game's first goal. Spillane stole the puck from a defender near center ice, brought the puck up and potted the frame's lone goal. The Eagles entered the first intermission with a 1-0 lead and 15-4 advantage in shots.

Boston College burst open for three goals in the second stanza beginning at 6:40 when Thunstrom scored on a puck off of Erin Blood's stick. Zavisza also earned credit on the assist for feeding the puck from the left wing. Thunstrom notched the Eagles' third goal of the game after Zavisza skated up the ice with the puck and Spillane flipped it to Thunstrom from right outside the crease at 8:41. Lindsay Wright finished off the second period's scoring with her second goal of the weekend. Stack took the initial shot before Meghan Fardelmann corralled the rebound and sent it to Wright.

The Eagles added two more goals in the third frame, both off of Stack's stick. At 1:51 into the final period, Stack picked up the puck near the Maine blue line and turned around to blast a shot by Maine's goalie, Genevieve Turgeon (Lac Beauport, Quebec). Stack converted the Eagles' only power play goal of the weekend at 12:34 when she received the puck on the left side from defender Gabrielle Beaudry on the right and buried the sixth goal of the afternoon.

In goal, Maine's Genevieve Turgeon had 37 saves and six goals against. For Boston College, Molly Schaus had 14 saves in her fourth shutout of the season. Maine had seven penalties for 14 minutes and Boston College had five penalties for ten minutes. On power plays, Maine was 0-5 and Boston College was 1-7. Elyce Thomas (Port Colquitlam, British Columbia) led Maine with three shots on goal.
