CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Becky Zavisza notched two goals to lead the number eight Boston College Eagles past the Maine Black Bears Saturday night at Conte Forum. The victory improves the Eagles to 23-8-2 on the season and 15-6-0 in Hockey East, while the Black Bears end the season at 10-19-2 overall and 5-14-2 in Hockey East. Boston College's Kelli Stack started the scoring at 6:37 of the first period. After receiving feeds from Anna McDonald and Meghan Fardelmann in the right face-off circle, Stack skated in front of Maine goalie Rachel Gettings (Watervliet, N.Y.) and back-handed a shot into the top of the net. During the first Eagle power play midway through the first period, Maine's Sonia Corriveau (Rouyn-Nornda, Quebec) stole the puck and started a breakaway. Allie Thunstrom pursued, and with a check, Thunstrom was able to skate away with the puck and avert a shorthanded scoring opportunity for the Black Bears. The Eagles outshot Maine 10-3 in the first frame, but went into the first intermission with just the 1-0 lead. Becky Zavisza struck for her first goal of the evening at 16:39 of the second period during a power play. Thunstrom took a shot through traffic on the right side of the net. Gettings saved the puck, but the rebound sailed to the left where Zavisza was alone to take the easy slapshot. With 1.1 seconds on the clock in the period, with both teams down a skater, Spillane stole the puck in neutral territory and passed it up to Thunstrom at the center position. Thunstrom buried the puck to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead after two periods. Becky Zavisza connected with another rebound for the second goal at 15:19 of the final frame. Cristin Stuart took the hard shot from the left point to create the opportunity. In goal, Maine's Rachel Gettings had 23 saves and three goals against. For Boston College Molly Schaus had 20 saves in her fifth shutout. Maine had four penalties for eight minutes and Boston College had five penalties for ten minutes. On power plays, Maine was 0-2 and Boston College was 1-5. Boston College had a 37 to 20 advantage on shots in the game.
