Box Score

Boston, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped an 8-1 decision to Boston University on Saturday afternoon. The Black Bears falls to 2-5-0 and 0-1-0 in Hockey East, while the Terriers improved to 5-2-1 and 2-0-0 in conference play. Dominique Goutsis (Coquitlam, B.C.) led Maine with a goal in the second period.

Boston University found the net twice before the Black Bears' Goutsis scored 5:36 into the second period off of a Vanessa Vani (St. Catharines, Ont.) pass, her second goal of the season, pulling Maine within striking distance at 2-1. The Terriers responded only a minute later with a Erin Seman (Ramsey, Minn.) score and followed with five more goals in the third period to seal the Black Bears' fate.

Vani's assist gives her 49 for her career and now puts her only five away from tying Maine's all-time record of 54. The Black Bears found themselves fighting the odds throughout the game after committing eight penalties for a total of 27 minutes.

Genevieve Turgeon (Lac Beauport, Ont.) made 25 saves and falls to 1-5-0 on the season.

The Black Bears stay on the road as they travel to Providence College tomorrow, October 26, to take on the Friars at 2 pm.
