Women's Hockey Falls to Northeastern 4-1
Nov. 9, 2008
Boston, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped a hard fought game to Northeastern 4-1. The Black Bears slide to 2-8-0 overall and 0-4-0 in Hockey East. The Huskies improve to 6-1-2 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play. Sophomore Jordan Colliton (Blackie, Alberta) scored Maine's lone goal. Northeastern scored 2:55 into the first period on a Kristi Kehoe (Bakersfield, Calif.) shot that found its way past senior goaltender Genevieve Turgeon (Lac Beauport, Quebec). The Black Bears fired back when Abby Barton (Woodstock, New Brunswick) found Colliton only 12 seconds later for her first goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1. The Huskies put the game out of reach early into the second period when Julia Marty (Nussbaumen, Switzerland) scored the first of her three unanswered goals to earn herself a hat-trick and give Northeastern the 4-1 victory. Colliton's goal was the fourth of her career and earned her Hockey East's third star of the game. Barton's assist was her first of the season. The Black Bears out shot Northeastern 29-28. Turgeon made 25 saves, stone-walling all nine of the Huskies' power plays, but falls to 1-8-0 for the season. Maine comes home next weekend to host New Hampshire on Friday, Nov. 14, in the Alfond Arena at 7 pm. The Black Bears are 2-3-0 at home this season.
